International Tax Talk Quarterly Series with Ernst & Young LLP's Global Tax Desks
A series addressing tax planning, risk and other pertinent global tax topics
When operating and investing in the Asia Pacific region, significant tax structuring aspects should be considered on an ongoing basis. These include local country withholding taxes, access to double tax treaties, capital gains tax, transfer taxes, thin capitalization rules, the availability of incentives, including tax holidays or reduced tax rates, potential tax exposures, including permanent establishment and/or tax residency, and transfer pricing considerations. More recently, general anti-avoidance rules (GAARs) and other anti-treaty shopping measures are increasingly important considerations.
This quarter our Global Tax Desk team focuses on important recent tax developments in the Asia Pacific region, as well as other topical issues. The panelists bring a wide range of expertise and will discuss important developments in tax controversy, recent regulatory and judicial developments, as well as potential opportunities. In brief, the webcast will cover:
- Important developments in India with widespread implications to multinationals including, GAAR, taxation of indirect share transfers and use of tax treaties, as well as advance pricing agreements
- Recent guidance from the People’s Republic of China in regards to the ongoing implementation of GAAR, including further guidance on beneficial ownership and anti-treaty shopping, the latest update with respect to Circular 698 and the taxation of indirect equity transfers, and other developments, including VAT reform
- Beyond India and China, broader developments in the Asia Pacific regarding treaty shopping and anti-abuse in jurisdictions such as Japan, Indonesia and Korea
- Other noteworthy regional tax developments including the increased use of Hong Kong and Singapore as holding company locations and regional hubs
During this live, interactive webcast, you will have the opportunity to ask questions through the website, and the panelists will answer as many of your questions as time permits.
This program will likely be of interest to vice presidents/directors of tax/international tax, directors of finance, CFOs, international tax managers and tax accountants looking for the latest practical information and planning ideas to support their global business initiatives. We hope you will be able to join us.
